U.S. to tax the world?

By Tom Haughey.

Under public pressure a few years ago, the U.S. Congress enacted legislation to temporarily prevent states from taxing an individual’s use of the Internet. That law sunsets late this fall. Democrats in the House and Senate have already let it be known they will not vote to extend the tax exemption. Since they are a majority in the Senate, this means that legislation to extend the exemption can’t pass until early next year (should the Republicans win the Senate in November).
