Newspapers vs. flyers
Local San Juan Activist Ramiro Treviño has paid for an ad in this week’s Advance that is most likely going to displease some people once it hits the streets this Wednesday (see page 9). And some will no doubt wonder – how did I allow him to publish such an ad? Especially since some people will consider it a personal-attack ad. Well, unfortunately, publishing negative political ads comes with the job of being a newspaper publisher. And to be honest, it’s one of my least favorite aspects of the business. I take no real pleasure in publishing personal information about people, even if it is in the form of an ad. But when they run for public office, they become public figures, and their past and/or personal business problems become a matter of public record.
