Death by child support

The state requirement of child support is usually a good thing that assures amenities for the children of broken homes. As with all government rules, however, there are weaknesses in the law which often allow individuals to play the system. I have a friend, for example, who married in haste to avoid the Vietnam draft and was subsequently divorced by his wife when she found someone more to her liking. My friendwas ordered to pay child support. The former wife didn’t   want to interrupt the cash flow, so she lived with her new boyfriend but put off marrying him until all her children were grown. The payments continued even after the children had become adults because they went to college and still qualified for said payments. When all the kids no longer qualified for support, she then asked her former husband to help her get a church annulment so she could (as a Catholic) remarry. He convinced her priest that he was a heathen and she obtained the annulment
