MANUEL “Meme” ESCOBEDO

ALAMO – Manuel “Meme” Escobedo, 73, passed away Monday, March 27, 2017. Born in El Gato, he lived in Alamo all of his life. Manuel joined Crest Fruit Company in 1966, and proudly worked himself up to his position of General Foreman for 44 years. His daily routine was waking up at 5 a.m. to pray for his family and friends before the activities of the day. His Sundays consisted of attending church and having lunch with his family. Manuel married Hilda, the love of his life, 35 years ago. Mr. Escobedo was greatly loved and survived by his wife, Hilda Escobedo of Alamo; his five children from previous marriage, Nicolas Escobedo, Ramon Escobedo, Idalia Escobedo, Leeroy Escobedo all of Wisconsin, Juan “Johnny” Manuel (Marivel) Escobedo of Alamo; five stepchildren, Rubie (Humberto) Gonzalez of Corpus Christi, Rene (Angela) Villarreal Jr. of Oklahoma, Raquel Casas Villarreal, Roxanne Villarreal, both of Alamo, Rebecca Villarreal (Roberto De Leon) of Mission; 27 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Visitation was held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. prayer service Tuesday, March 28, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Interment of cremated remains will be held at a later date. Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
