JOSEFINA R. GARZA
SAN JUAN – Josefina R. Garza, 96, died Thursday, January 5, 2017, at San Juan Nursing Home. Josefina was born February 18, 1920 in Mercedes, TX. She married Manuel P. Garza on March 2, 1936 in Benavides, TX. Josefina will always be remembered for her great cooking, quilting and sewing skills. Her passion was spending time with her family and friends, who will miss her dearly. She is preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Manuel Garza, Sr.; and a daughter-in-law, Dominga Garza. Mrs. Garza is survived by six sons, Roberto (Matilde) Garza of California, Armando (Gloria) Garza of Dallas, TX, Manuel (Rosario) Garza, Jr. of Alamo, Arturo Garza of Raymondville, TX, Abel Garza of Kingsville TX, Javier (Yolanda) Garza; a daughter, Diana (Raymundo) Rosas; and a daughter-in-law, Delmira Garza, all of San Juan; 19 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter. Visitation was held from 3 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary Sunday, Jan. 8, 2017, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral service took place at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 9, 2017, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Parish in San Juan. Interment followed at Palm Valley Memorial Gardens in Pharr. The family would like to give special thanks to San Juan Nursing Home staff and her caregiver and best friend, Margarita Meza of San Juan. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in her name to San Juan Nursing Home, 300 N. Nebraska, San Juan, Texas 78589. Funeral services were under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
