PHARR – Guadalupe “Lupita” Martinez, 90, died Monday, January 2, 2017, at San Juan Nursing Home. Mrs. Martinez was born in San Juan and had lived there most of her life, until she moved to Pharr in 2002. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Parish in San Juan. Lupita was a communion minister at National Basilica of Our Lady of San Juan Del Valle and also at St. John the Baptist Catholic Parish. She is preceded in death by her husband, Marcelino R. Martinez; and a brother, Fidencio Gonzalez. Lupita is survived by three daughters, Lupe De Leon of Dallas, Juanita Schwartau of Houston, Blanca (Paulino) Ramirez of Pharr; a son, Ruben (Linda) Martinez, PhD of Littleton, CO; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary Wednesday, January 4, 2017, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. Thursday, January 5, 2017, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Parish in San Juan. Interment will follow at Val Verde Memorial Gardens in Donna. Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
