ANGELICA MARTINEZ

Angelica Martinez, 70, passed away on Monday Oct. 6, 2014, at McAllen Medical Center. Born Dec. 18, 1943 in Edinburg, Texas, she had lived in California most of her life. She is preceded in death by her parents, Fernando and Elevinia Martinez; three siblings, Marin Martinez, Fernando Martinez, Jr., and Margot Ramirez. She loved to cook, bake and enjoyed the California lifestyle. Some of her favorite things to do were fishing, camping, play slot machines in the casinos, eat at Redondo Beach and play in the Fun Factory. Ms. Martinez is survived by eight children, Betty Lou (Marin Andrade) Rodriguez of Edinburg, Texas, Victoriano (Elizabeth L. Anderson) Hernandez, Jr. of Phoenix, Arizona, Marcos Hernandez of San Fernando, California, Eliberto Hernandez of Phoenix, Arizona, Jose Efrain Hernandez of Pharr, Gloria (Victor Sosa) Ortiz of Sylmar, California, Maria Magdalena Garcia of Phoenix, Arizona and Isabell (Angel) Ortega of Edinburg; she is survived by 18 grandchildren, David, Daniel, Gerardo, Gregorio, Sabrina, Mary Vic, Marcos Jr., Eliberto Jr., Christina Monique, Christopher Armando, Ricardo Jr., Lisa Annette, Edgar Emilio, Jessica Jeanette, Lizbeth, Michelle Marie, Ricardo Jr., Kristie Nanette, Emily Nicole; and 21 great-grandchildren, Monique Alexandra, Denise Danielle, David Jr. Alexander, Angel Alexander, Daniel Jr., Sabrina Danielle, Precious Lizbeth, Max Gerardo, AmberMarie, Kimberly Danielle, Jayden Benjamin, Anthony Isaiah, Eduardo  Isidro, Anthony Xavier, Gabriel Dean, Amethyst Lanaya, Landen Avery, Athena Raelynn, Alexander Jay, Ares Blaze, Emily Rose. Martinez is also survived by eight siblings, Eugenio Pena of Lake Zurich, Illinois, Irma (Arnoldo) Blanco of Pharr, Polo (Eufemia) Martinez of Harlingen, Matilde (Anastacio Felipe) Lopez, Edinburg, Mary (David) Quezada of Alamo, Martin (Luz) Martinez, Edinburg, Carmen (Steve) Gonzalez, Edinburg and Ponciano Gamboa, Edinburg; and she is survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation was be held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary on Oct. 9, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral services took place at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10, at St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Catholic Church at 8001 S. Cage Blvd. Pharr, Texas. A private cremation will take place at a later date. Funeral services were under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan, Texas.
