AMPARO G. RAMIREZ
PHARR – Amparo G. Ramirez, 89, died Sunday, February 12, 2017, surrounded by her family at Comfort House in McAllen. Born in Rio Grande City, Mrs. Ramirez was a lifelong resident of Pharr. She was a devoted wife, daughter, mother and sister. Amparo was a long time business owner of North Cage Cleaners in Pharr. She served her community as a member of the City of Pharr Planning and Zoning Committee for many years. She was also recognized by the Pharr Chamber of Commerce as “Business Woman of the Year”. She was a devoted member of La Trinidad United Methodist Church in Pharr. She is preceded in death by her husband, Roberto Ramirez; a son, Miguel Ramirez; her parents, Adalberto and Josefa Garza; and a sister, Imelda Garza. Amparo is survived by five children, Roberto (Melba) Ramirez Jr., Gilma R. (Ben Jr.) Franco, Noel R. “Ronnie” Ramirez, Mike (Darlene) Ramirez, Carlos “Charlie” (Mary A. Montalvo) Ramirez, all of Pharr; 17 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Alicia G. Salinas, Estela Villegas, both of Alamo, Rebecca De La O of Brownfield, TX; three brothers, Adalberto Garza Jr. of Alamo, Ruben Dario Garza, Armando O. Garza, both of McAllen; and her nephew, Chendo Ramirez of Port Arthur. On behalf of the Ramirez family, we would like to thank the Gentiva Hospice nurses and staff for their superior care they gave to her. We also would like to give a HUGE thank you to the Comfort House of McAllen where she spent her last days. Thank you once again to everyone who visited, called and showed their love and support to our family through this difficult time. Visitation was held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. prayer service Wednesday, Feb. 15, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral service took place at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Interment followed at Palm Valley Memorial Gardens in Pharr. Funeral services were under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
