Mayor, Mayor Pro Tem spar

SAN JUAN – This story is a follow-up to one The Advance published two weeks ago in which Mayor San Juanita Sanchez said that Mayor Pro Tem Mario Garza and City Commissioner “Jesse” Ramirez are using their roles as elected officials to get friends jobs with the city; and the city manager, Ben Arjona, is helping to facilitate it. In that story, dated Nov. 9th, both Ramirez and Arjona denied the mayor’s allegations. The Advance did not, however, give Garza a chance to defend himself. It wasn’t intentional. We simply ran out of time. Last week we managed to catch up with him by phone to get his reaction to the mayor’s comments; and then we called back the mayor to let her know what he had said.
