As I’ve written many times, the word “tragic” doesn’t begin to describe what’s happened to Mexico over at least the past 10 years, ever since former Mexican President Felipe Calderon launched his war against the drug cartels in December 2006.
 
Of course, with the recent terrorist bombings in New York, New Jersey, and the knife attacks in Minnesota, the word “tragic” is beginning to apply to the U.S. as well. The two offenders in the three attacks are Muslims. To what degree they’re tied to ISIS has yet to be determined.
 
Here along the U.S./Mexico border, thousands of people continue to enter this country illegally each week. Even when caught, most can’t be properly vetted because they’re coming from countries that lack proper criminal background searches. Not so much Mexico, but places like Cuba, Central America and countries in the Middle East. Our ability to access their internal security checks is next to non-existence.
