Tax rate won’t increase?

Mayor, Commissioner butt heads

By G. Romero Wendorf

SAN JUAN – Good news for city residents: unless the city commission amends the vote it took last week, your property taxes won’t increase next year. At least as far as the city is concerned. The Healthcare District is another matter.

The city commission voted unanimously last Tuesday to keep the current rate -- .6993 per $100 valuation – the same for the upcoming fiscal year.

The question still left on the table: what can be done to improve city streets?

The public will have a chance to voice their opinions during two planned public hearings (town hall meetings) set for Aug. 23 and Aug. 30 at the San Juan Memorial Library,
