Turns out, Precinct 2 County Commissioner Eduardo “Eddie” Cantu was right last week when he argued that the petition presented to the Hidalgo County Commissioners Court by Valley Interfaith representatives to put a new Healthcare District initiative on the November ballot did not require that a specific tax amount be included on the petition.
In this case, 8 cents per $100 property valuation.
But rather, Cantu said last Tuesday, that tax-figure decision should ultimately be left in the hands of the Commissioners Court. At least that’s how he read the law, he said.
