New Homestead Exemption in place

EDINBURG – This year, the people who staff the Hidalgo County Appraisal District’s main office just off of Trenton didn’t have it as bad as they did last year, whew, when almost, quite literally, an angry and unruly mob with pitchforks (metaphorically speaking) in hand were turning up at the front door, with their (alleged) inflated property appraisals clenched in tight fists, looking for justice and a place to vent.
This year, things were a lot quieter at the appraisal office. Compared to last year, when approximately 35,000 appraisal protests were filed, the number this year was only approximately 55 percent of that amount, according to Hidalgo County
