Donna ISD lawsuit award: $3.3 million
By G. Romero Wendorf
DONNA – Donna ISD Board Trustee Tomasa “Tammy” Ramos must be breathing a sigh of relief after dodging a bullet thanks to Federal Judge Randy Crane’s ruling that she couldn’t be included among the list of defendants. Lucky for her, considering her remaining four co-defendants on the school board were all hit with hefty punitive damages last Thursday.
The jury verdict stems from a lawsuit filed in federal court last year that ended up naming six plaintiffs, all Donna ISD employees who claimed that the new board majority and the political slate it comprised had punished them for not supporting it during the November 2014 board election.
Collectively, the six plaintiffs had worked for the school district for approximately 110 years.
