Which political candidates are behind on their taxes?

Who’s delinquent on taxes?

If gambling were legal, not counting the state-sanctioned lottery, of course, then The Advance News Journal would open a bookie (bookmaker) joint across from the county courthouse to take bets on the upcoming elections across Hidalgo County.
 
The bet would be an over-or-under. Counting all of the politicians who have filed as candidates for local elections -- city and school districts, water districts, you name it -- how many are current on paying their property taxes? More than 50 percent? Or less than 50 percent?
 
About two weeks before early voting begins Oct. 24, The Advance will check the Hidalgo County Tax Office website and see which candidates are paid up, and which are not. The properties will include not only their listed homestead, but all of the properties in Hidalgo County for which they are listed as the
