Accused “Killer Priest” waives extradition
By G. Romero Wendorf
If you read the Feb. 17th issue of The Advance News Journal, then you already know that the chief suspect in the 1960 murder of local beauty queen Irene Garza, former Catholic Priest John Feit, is soon going to return to south Texas after a county grand jury indicted him on capital murder charges last month.
For 56 years, Garza’s family has sought justice. But none was forthcoming until a new DA, Ricardo Rodriguez, took office last year. With the help of the McAllen PD, the Texas Rangers, the sheriff’s office, apparently enough evidence was presented to a grand jury to warrant a true bill.
County prosecutors await his return, which should take place this month.
