Hospital and eye clinic both sued

Lawsuits for the deaf

EDINBURG -- Doctors Hospital at Renaissance (DHR) entered into an undisclosed settlement last month with a deaf couple under the Americans with Disabilities Act after being sued for allegedly not providing them with proper communication services during two rounds of cancer treatment for their daughter. This was the second time that the family had successfully sued a medical provider and come out the victor.

In the case of DHR, its attorneys beat the allegation in a federal district court during summary judgment, but the plaintiffs (the deaf couple) won on appeal in the 5th Circuit two years go, which sent the case back to the lower court.
