Hidalgo police chief arrested, charged with domestic violence

Suspended Hidalgo City Police Chief Rodolfo “Rudy” Espinosa was arrested by Hidalgo City police sometime Wednesday night and charged with domestic violence. He was booked into the county jail earlier today. Details are sketchy at this time. According to one source, Espinosa is scheduled to be arraigned sometime today at the county jail. The official charge against him reads:  “Assault causes bodily injury family member.”

Espinosa was suspended on Oct. 16th and has remained on paid leave ever since. According to several sources, the former longtime Hidalgo County Sheriffs Office deputy and captain was under an internal investigation for workplace misconduct.

Espinosa was named police chief for the City of Hidalgo in October of 2012.
