Now that former Pharr Housing Authority (PHA) Director Fernando Lopez has landed on his feet – he’s got a new job with PSJA ISD working as the district’s maintenance director -- he won’t have to spend any of that $140,000 settlement money on simple living expenses. And, too, he can bank the additional $63,000 he received in unpaid accrued annual leave he had left remaining on the books after 14+ years on the job; the last eight years spent as director.
As recounted in several previous news stories published in The Advance, Lopez was terminated Jan. 4th after the PHA board voted 3-2 to can him. The reasons as to why are still being investigated.
