Consultants, consultants, consultants, consultants

A very lucrative gig

Like any other vocation, the job of consultant is comprised of good people and worthless people. The good people actually work for their money. The worthless people help bankroll elections, and then get a lucrative gig as a consultant for either a city, school district, and/or a county.
 
The ones who really know how to do it get multiple consulting gigs.
 
The really, really good ones can make six figures per year for not even getting out of bed in the morning.
 
After covering this county beginning in 1982, 34 years ago (I was 10 at the time), I’ve seen some good consultants pass by, no doubt about it, but I’ve sure seen my share of bad ones who do little for the taxpayer money they’re paid.
 
With a good bit of irony, however, the good ones actually get paid less than the worthless ones I’ve seen cross my path. I’ve never understood that, but it’s true. Not always, but a good chunk of the time. Must be tied, again, to election cycles and the campaign donations that fuel them.
 
The worthless ones usually also have a lot of relatives who get jobs with the governmental
