PHARR -- Longtime Pharr Financial Advisor Cris Vela of First Southwest has been given a 30-day notice that will terminate his contract with the city. In his stead, with the approval of the city commission majority, the city has issued a Request for Proposal, looking for a new financial advisor to replace him. The deadline to apply ends Sept. 15 at 2 p.m. Asked why Vela was replaced, City Manager Juan Guerra stated: “In my experience with him over the last nine years, Cris Vela has provided the City of Pharr with excellent Financial Advisor services, so this in no way indicates that the services he provided are professionally inadequate.
