The Rio Grande Valley’s very own Omar Figueroa, still the world’s Lightweight boxing champ. Has a pretty cool ring to it – world champion. Hey, don’t beat me up over this, but watching the recent Aug. 16 WBC match between the kid from Weslaco, Omar Figueroa, and Daniel Estrada, only serves to underscore the beauty of boxing vs. the mixed-martial arts pummelfest that is The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).
