San Juan street: Overlay?

By Tom Haughey
Last May during her reelection campaign San Juan’s mayor promised to pave three really brutal streets in town, including Eldora Road. Not so surprisingly there was no mention at that time of higher taxes to pay for the work. Following the election nothing was done to any of them beyond throwing some gravel in the worst potholes. Then came the winter and the additional damage that winter rains bring with it. Those roads which were dangerous before have become disasters in progress. As a San Juan resident who lives on Eldora Road I must admit that I was ambivalent when I read of the city’s plans to finally follow through with that election promise. The road is so bad that it has ruined one of my tires and stolen another. How, you may ask, can a street steal a tire?
