Rethinking Iraq

In a previous column I went into detail about the steps Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki took to promote Shia against Sunni and effectively dismantle the fighting ability of his army. That partisan bent shouldn’t have come as a surprise since he began his political career as a Shia radical in the anti-Hussein Dawa Party and spent years in exile in both Syria and Iran.
