The China Problem

Truth Matters

A few years back America’s great concern was the trade imbalance with Japan. That turned out to be less of a problem than we thought. Now our attention has turned to China. Will the “People’s Republic” take over as the world’s greatest superpower? The simple answer is “probably not”.

China has a few things working against it. To begin with, the country doesn’t have a single unifying language. In that respect it’s more like the old Soviet Union which brought diverse peoples together through conquest. Even while it feverishly builds its military in an effort to match the United States on land, sea, and in the air, it continues to spend more on its own internal security each year than it does on national defense. Put bluntly, it is held together by the force of arms.
