Garsez, 79, passed away January 9, 2014, in Colorado Springs, CO. Born on April 8, 1934, in Goliad, Texas, he had lived in Colorado Springs, CO for 43 years. Gars graduated from P-SJ-A, class of 1954, attended Pan Am University and USC in Pueblo, CO. He served his country for 24 years in the Army, receiving many awards and metals. Gars enjoyed going to his high school reunions, football, and baseball games, as well as playing golf. He was our hero and the person we looked to for strength and guidance. He led by example, and will be missed beyond measure. Gars is preceded in death by his parents, Timoteo Garsez and Maria Pura; and three brothers. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Sara Garsez; three sons, Robert (Cindy) Garsez, Larry (Sandra) Garsez, and Jerry (Deborah) Garsez; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren;
and a sister, Connie. Visitation will be held from 6 to 9 p.m., with a 6:30 p.m. video presentation and a 7 p.m. rosary Thursday, March 20, at Memorial Funeral Home. An internment of cremated remains will take place at 10 a.m., Friday, March 21, at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission. Military Honors will be conducted by American Legion Post 93 of Mission. In Lieu of flowers, please donate to the Wounded Warriors of the Alzheimer’s Association. Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
