ALAMO – Maria Flores Gutierrez, 74, died Thursday, July 31, 2014, at Amara Hospice in Edinburg. Born in Alamo, she had lived there all of her life. Mrs. Gutierrez is preceded in death by her husband, Francisco Gutierrez; her parents Aurelio and Cecilia Flores; four brothers, Severo, Eustacio, Inocencio and Antonio Flores; and two sisters, Hortencia Medina and Rita Moreno. She is survived by her six nieces and nephews who she raised as her own, Fulgencia (+Blas) Gonzalez, Augustina (+Domingo) Rendon, both of McAllen, Gloria (Miguel,Jr.) Canales, of San Jose, CA, Robert (Guadalupe) Medina, of Lubbock, TX, Mercedes Medina, and Eduardo Flores, both of Alamo; two grandchildren; and numerous nieces, greatnieces, nephews, great- nephews and cousins. Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary today, August 3, 2014, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. Monday, August 4, 2014, at Resurrection Catholic Church in Alamo. Interment will follow at Val Verde Memorial Gardens in Donna. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Amara Foundation for Indigent Hospice Care Inc. at 505 W. Owassa Rd in Edinburg, TX 78539. Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
