Carlin’s baseball vs. football

George Carlin’s been dead now six years this past June. But for me, it’s always this time of year that the great comedian comes to mind. When both sports are in full swing – football and baseball. How to compare the two? I was thinking about Carlin this past Saturday afternoon while watching the KC Royals blow two home games past the Orioles in Baltimore, 6-4. Carlin was a New York native, but he would have loved the game – classic baseball, with the lead bouncing back and forth between teams. Lots of spitting. Sour looks. Diving catches in the outfield. First baseman doing the full splits so he can catch the ball with his foot still stuck to the base. And the guy most responsible for the Royals’ win is Mike Moustakas, the guy hitting ninth in the batting order. In fact, itwas only five months ago that  the Royals demoted their third baseman and sent him back to Triple-A ball in Omaha because he was only hitting .152 through 139 plate appearances.
