Judy Lee Wong, 58, died Friday, July 22, 2016, at Rio Grande Regional Hospital in McAllen. Judy was born in San Juan, TX, and had lived in the Valley most of her life. She bravely battled breast cancer for over 12 years. Judy was known by all who knew her for her strength and compassion and made friends easily everywhere she went. She was an incredible mother, sister, and aunt, never missing a moment of her family’s lives. Growing up in Pharr, TX, Judy was a proud member of the PSJA Bears class of ’75, where she graduated Salutatorian. She was also named the 1975 winner of the Miss Chinatown Houston pageant, where she amazed the crowd with her twirling abilities. She received both her degree in Accounting and her Doctorate of Jurisprudence from the University of Texas at Austin. Straight out of law school, Judy worked at Ernst & Whinney (now Ernst & Young) as an accountant for 5 years in San Francisco, CA. She then moved back to Texas and began her law practice with Ewers and Toothaker Law Firm of McAllen, TX, later opening up her own firm as a managing partner of Talbot & Wong, PC. At the time of her passing, she was a partner at Atlas, Hall & Rodriguez, LLP. She had a passion for her work and was loved by all who worked with her. She is preceded in death by her son, Kevin Wong; and her parents, Du Ong and Chie Nown Lee. Judy is survived by her husband, Rodney Wong; daughter, Kimmy Wong; sister, Anita (Dr. Tommy) Yee; brothers, Peter (Christa) Lee and Dr. Chevy (Teresa) Lee; and nephews and nieces, Jason, Janine, Sheldon, Jennifer Y., Brandon, Whitney, Tim, Todd, Jennifer I., Carrie, Bradley, Rebecca, Kristin, and Brian. Many other close family and friends survive Judy across the nation. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, July 29, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 30, 2016, at First United Methodist Church in McAllen, with a reception to follow. Interment will take place at Roselawn Cemetery in McAllen. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Vannie E. Cook Jr. Cancer Foundation at vanniecook.org or to the UT Austin Chapter of Camp Kesem at donate.kesem.org/kimmywong. Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan, TX.
