PHARR – Americo Garcia Ocañas, age 61, passed away Tuesday, August 27, 2014 at Rio Grande Regional Hospital in McAllen. He was a longtime employee of the City of Pharr. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alberto and Maria Ocañas, and by two brothers, Homero and Romeo Ocañas. He is survived by his loving wife, Erlinda Ocañas; five children, Americo Daniel (Mary Martinez) Ocañas, Arlene (Juan Sanchez) Ocañas, Homer Ocañas, Lisa Marie Ocañas & Eva (Junior Prado) Ocañas; a brother, Alberto (Angelina) Ocañas; a sister, Lydia (Alfredo) Morales; a sister-in-law, Bertha Ocañas and by 10 grandchildren. Visitation was held on Friday, August 29, 2014 at Skinner-Silva Funeral Home on West Sam Houston in Pharr with a Holy Rosary recited at 7:00 pm in the evening. Funeral mass was celebrated at 10:00 am on Saturday, August 30, 2014 at St. Margaret’s Catholic Church in Pharr with interment following at Palm Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Pharr. Funeral services were entrusted to the care of Skinner-Silva Funeral Home of Pharr.
