Ed. note: Every week, on an almost daily basis, the U.S. Border Patrol’s RGV sector chief, Manuel Padilla, Jr., with 34 years of service, logs on to his Twitter account to release news of what his agents and those assigned to other local law enforcement agencies are doing with regard to safeguarding the border.
For those readers outside of this area who are not familiar with the RGV, however, it should be mentioned that any online search will underscore the point that despite the problems with crime south of the Rio Grande River, the reality on this side of the border is quite different. In fact, the crime rate for most cities and towns located in the Rio Grande Valley remain lower than many other parts of the state, much less than other urban areas in the U.S. Broadcasting that message to the general public, however, remains an ongoing challenge for the Valley’s elected officials, EDCs, and chambers of commerce.
