San Juan EDC doesn’t renew director’s contract

SAN JUAN – Oscar Cuellar Jr. has been around municipal government for so long it’s hard to believe that he’s finally reached Social Security age and may actually retire.
At its last board meeting, the San Juan EDC decided not to renew his one-year contract, which made his last official day on the job this Monday, Nov. 27, 2017.
Two years ago, Cuellar was one of two finalists for the San Juan city manager’s job. Approximately 14 had applied for the job, but in the end, only two were left standing: Cuellar and Ben Arjona, who was then working as the city of Hidalgo’s management analyst. Arjona got the job and is still at his desk.
