Operation Shut Down targets illegal gambling in Hidalgo County

LA JOYA — After a lengthy investigation into allegations of illegal gambling, the Hidalgo County Criminal District Attorney’s Office initiated a joint law-enforcement effort under the code name “Operation Shut Down,” which targeted several eight liner facilities. Through various surveillance and undercover operations, District Attorney investigators developed probable cause that illegal gambling was in fact occurring at the reported eight liner establishments in La Joya.
