Federer continues to amaze

I’ve been following tennis since the days of Jimmy Connors, Chris Everett, Martina, Agassi (when he still had hair), Bjorn Borg (my all-time favorite in the ‘70s), Guillermo Vilas (the cool Argentinian long-haired cat), and the guy I used to love to hate: John McEnroe, AKA, the Spoiled Brat from New York City who gave Americans a bad name.

I played the game, too, from about the age of 14 on into my 50s when arthritis set in and ended both tennis and golf. Sports is more fun to watch if you’re actually playing the game when you’re not sitting on the couch. I no longer watch the PGA tournaments because I’m jealous of the old guys who can still play on the senior circuit. Tennis, however, is still a pleasure to watch because, well, unlike golf, the pros eventually reach an age that retirement is no longer an option. In the PGA, when players hit 50, they can move over to the PGA senior tour and continue striking the ball. If I could still play a round, it might not bother me so.
