McAllen $$ for private investment
By G. Romero Wendorf
An Advance News Journal reader, a McAllen resident, phoned this newspaper last week with a question: Exactly how much money does the City of McAllen have?
His tone indicated more than a hint of sarcasm.
“If they have so much money, instead of giving it to developers, why don’t they do something useful with it like reduce our property taxes?”
The caller is a male in his 60s; fairly well known; once ran for public office; is relatively wealthy; owns shares in a financial institution, or did; is a political fiscal conservative; is a Trump supporter; and asked the question again, in rhetorical fashion: “How much money does the City of McAllen have?”
