$$$ standardized testing
By G. Romero Wendorf
McAllen ISD, as well as school districts across the RGV and state, are in the process of working through this year’s standardized school test: STAAR (State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness).
Looking at Texas’s standardized tests, one may conclude that state legislators have a fetish with alphabet soup.
The standardized testing in the Lone Star State began in 1980 (AKA, the same year teachers began pulling out their hair, and students went on anti-anxiety meds) with the advent of TABS (Texas Assessment of Basic Skills), which assessed students’ skills in reading, writing, and mathematics.
