Edinburg: $30M for courthouse

Monday, the City of Edinburg pledged $30 million toward the construction of the county’s new proposed $150 million courthouse (the latest figure). The pledge came by way of a 5-0 Edinburg City Council vote at city hall in favor of a memorandum of understanding (MOU), which isn’t legally binding, but helps set the stage for the signing of a legal contract once the finer points have been agreed to by all the participating parties. The actual agenda posting read: “The joint session between the Edinburg City Council and the Hidalgo County Commissioners Court will focus on ‘Discussion and action on Memorandum of Understanding between County of Hidalgo, City of Edinburg, and Edinburg EDC regarding the development of and funding for a New Hidalgo County Courthouse.’ "
