PSJA ISD Summer Meal Program underway, projected to serve 8,500 meals a day
PHARR - The Pharr-San Juan-Alamo School District served breakfast and lunch at close to 50 sites this week as part of the Summer Meal program. An average of approximately 6,500 meals were delivered with an additional 2,000 more expected starting Monday when all summer school programs began.
The Summer Meal Program, in partnership with the Texas Department of Agricultural Commission, ensures all children 18 years old and younger have a healthy breakfast and lunch during the summer months when most are out of school.
PSJA ISD also partners with community entities to provide this service at their location, in addition to the 39 school sites. This year, the district is also offering "Meals on the Go" by delivering meals at various community locations where a lunchroom space is limited.
Area residents can select to attend a location near them by visiting the PSJA Child Nutrition Dept. web calendar at www.psjaisd.us/kidsmeals.
