Pharr proclaims July 30 as “World Day Against Trafficking In Persons”

Pharr city officials joined the Hidalgo County Criminal District Attorney’s Office and the Rio Grande Valley Anti-Human Trafficking Taskforce in proclaiming July 30 as “World Day Against Human Trafficking In Persons.”
According to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime Global Report on Trafficking in Persons, human trafficking is a crime that exploits women, children, and men for numerous purposes including forced labor and sex. Children make up almost a third of all human trafficking victims worldwide.
Additionally, women and girls comprise 71 percent of human trafficking victims, the report states. The International Labour Organization estimates that 21 million people are victims of forced labor
