Pharr City Commission splits over drug testing themselves

PHARR -- Despite the Pharr City Commission’s failure to pass a resolution Monday night calling for voluntary drug testing on the part of the mayor and commissioners, City Commissioner Bobby Carrillo said it’s not a sign of a complete commission split. A return to former Pharr politics, which always ended up being a case of Us vs. Them.
“I had someone call me this morning and ask, ‘Does this mean that the city commission is split again?’” Carrillo said. “I told them, no, it was only one vote.”
The vote was 4-3 and whether by coincidence or not, fell along the same political slate lines as laid out in last year’s municipal election: Pharr First vs. Pharr Forward.
