Mayor captures majority

San Juan election
By G. Romero Wendorf

SAN JUAN – With Saturday’s election giving Pete Garcia a win over his opponent, Julian Lopez, by a 220-vote spread – 1,167 to 947 -- the mayor has finally regained her majority on the city commission. First time since she lost it in 2007.

Her supporters couldn’t be happier. Her critics, well, they’re probably still wishing Shay Cantu hadn’t been forced to move to Austin last year due to work demands. After all, that’s what forced this special election.

Garcia’s past public service included eight years on the PSJA ISD board of trustees, 2004 to 2012, and four years on the county’s Appraisal District board.
