Apparently Pharr doesn’t want to be named All-America Colonia?

County Commissioners’ vote goes awry

Hidalgo County’s Precinct 2 had been working with the non-profit, Proyecto Azteca, since sometime last year to get Pharr’s Original Townsite designated as a colonia. Only one hitch, however: neither entity apparently bothered to notify anyone connected with the city of their plans. According to the Pharr mayor, he knew nothing about it; the Pharr city manager knew nothing about it; the Pharr city commission knew nothing about it; and neither did the business owners and residential owners who comprise the Original Townsite and pay city taxes.

The issue came to light last Tuesday during an Hidalgo County Commissioners Court meeting. It was listed as item 5A on the agenda: “Discussion and approval to designate Pharr Original Townsite as a colonia and authorize County Judge Ramon Garcia to submit letter on the designation.”
