Accused “Killer Priest” arrested
By G. Romero Wendorf
When you’re talking cold-case files, AKA, serious crimes dating way back that have never been solved, a 56-year-old murder has to rank near the top of the list in terms of never giving up.
Thankfully, there is no such thing as a statute of limitations on murder. Of course, that outlook – the “thankfully” part -- would depend on whether you’re the one charged with the crime in question. Or the family of the deceased still in search of justice.
In the case of the 1960 murder of 25-year-old Miss South Texas Beauty Queen Irene Garza, the man now charged with her violent death, which included sexual assault, 83-year-old former Catholic Priest John Feit, must clearly believe too much time has passed to resurrect the homicide. In fact, during his bond hearing last week in Maricopa County, Arizona, Feit told the judge that “this whole thing makes no sense because the crime in question took place in 1960.”
