Advance News will remain print weekly; but will turn into online daily beginning Wednesday

Alamo police chief gets a TRO

Hidalgo County has a new daily news media outlet in place beginning this Wednesday. Each day, before noon (barring unforeseen computer glitches), there will be posted at anjournal.com at least one original news story, perhaps more.

In March of 1978, The Advance News Journal began operation, but what a difference 40 years has made. At the time, the RGV had two TV stations, several radio stations, four daily newspapers, and a handful of weekly community newspapers. How times have changed.

Today, there is news all over the place, thanks to social media. The problem is, however, that most of the people posting “news” on social media have no clue what real journalism is. Real online news outlets, however, are increasing with regard to the number of subscribers drawn to them. Good local news is still a valuable commodity, and people are willing to pay for it.
