Monica Melissa Patterson is back in the news, but like before (2015), not in a good way. Last week, after learning that there was a new warrant out for her arrest, she voluntarily appeared at the Hidalgo County jail Thursday afternoon at approximately 1 p.m. where Justice of the Peace “Bobby” Contreras was waiting to hear the charges against her and decide what bond to set.
Currently, she’s free on a half-million-dollar bond, charged with the January 2015 capital (pre-meditated) murder of 96-year-old McAllen resident Martin “Marty” Knell. Perhaps “free” isn’t really the appropriate term. She’s currently staying with family, but she can’t leave their home without prior approval from Contreras, which was part of the original conditions set down as part of her bail (Sept. 2015).
