HISTORIC RUN

Baseball finally wound down in the Rio Grande Valley, but not after the Sharyland Pioneer Diamondbacks knocked off two No. 2 ranked teams in the state en route to reaching the Class 5A semifinals. The Diamondbacks fell to Georgetown, a team ranked No. 4 in the nation and with a 40-4-1 record. However, it wss the farthest a team had made it in the playoffs since Harlingen did it in 2007. It also included a city rivalery series against Sharyland High in the previous round.

Now that the season is done, the final coaches poll showed three teams from District 31-5A in the top 20 - Rio Grande City, Sharyland High and, of course, Sharyland Pioneer.
