SHARYLAND - The Sharyland Diamondbacks are heading to the state tournament – the land of the final four – this week in Round Rock, and they did it in spectacular fashion.
Facing crosstown and district rival Sharyland High in the Region IV-5A finals, the Diamondbacks secured their trip to the state tournament with a two-game sweep, claiming a 7-6 victory in Game 1 and an 11-1 in five innings in Game 2.
How big was this series? More than 5,200 people packed the UTRGV Baseball Stadium in Edinburg to get a glimpse of what may consider the biggest baseball games in Rio Grande Valley history. Fans attended from all over and were not disappointed, especially in the first game where the Diamondbacks had a 7-3 lead going into the seventh
