Former Edinburg North standout selected for the 2nd time in the MLB Draft
Saul Garza, a former Edinburg North standout and district MVP, has had a phenomenal year at LSU this season. To top it off, he was selected for the second time in the Major League Baseball Draft.
Garza, a catcher for the powerhouse Tigers, was selected in the 32nd round with the 949th pick by the Kansas City Royals. Garza was recently voted the Co-Most Outstanding Player of the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional after hitting .500 with six RBIs. He was also named to the SEC All-Tournament Team. In his first year with the Tigers, Garza has a .309 average with five home runs, 27 RBIs and 20 runs.
Garza, who was also drafted in the 2017 MLB Draft by the St. Louis Cardinals, will reportedly head back to LSU for his junior season “unless blown away by an offer.”
