FLYIN’ HIGH...

Baseball hasn’t flexed its muscles in the Rio Grande Valley in quite some time like it’s doing this year.

Not only did the UTRGV baseball team win its final three conference games to capture the WAC (Western Athletic Conference) championship, but in the high school world all four teams from District 31-5A beat state-ranked opponents and now two of those team are in the Sweet 16 of the UIL Class 5A baseball championship.

VAQUEROS RIDING HIGH

It’s the baseball program’s first NCAA Division I conference title in 64 years; in 1955, the baseball team was Big State Conference co-champion.

The Vaqueros (34-19 overall, 19-8 WAC) clinched the No. 2 seed going into this week’s WAC Baseball Tournament in Mesa, Arizona. They are co-champions with California Baptist and New Mexico State.
