Avalos a national champion

Nine-year-old Eduardo Avalos won a hard fought race managing to outpace all other nine-year-olds and half of the ten-year-olds in his Detroit National AAU Racewalk Championship.

However, he was lined up as having won third place among the ten-year-olds. Attention was immediately called to the officials but they explained that he was registered as a ten-year-old at the national office and could not be changed.
